Five Star Electric hired Josh Michael, a wounded veterans, back in June 2013. Josh is part of Five Star’s outside sales team. In the beginning of 2014 Josh Michael applied to participate in the President George W. Bush Wounded Warrior 100-kilometer ride he puts on once a year. Each spring, approximately 20 servicemen and women wounded in the global war on terror join President George W. Bush for a 100K mountain bike ride. Part of the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative, the W100K highlights the bravery and sacrifice of warriors and recognizes organizations that support America’s heroes. Josh ended up being 1 of the 16 wounded veterans selected for the prestigious ride. He was able to represent Five Star Electric in the ride by wearing a personalized company cycling jersey.
A few words from Josh Michael on his experience:
“The last week in March I received a call that I had been selected to participate in the W100k George W. Bush ride. While there, I was surrounded by wounded vets with an extensive military resume. Everyone shared the same humility and appreciated the generous event. The ride was broken into 3 days; twelve miles the first, thirty miles the second, and twenty five miles on the third and final day. The three different trails had every challenge a mountain biker could imagine and was not a beginner course by any means. Despite President Bush’s age he is an advanced biker and kept ahead of everyone the entire time. The ride was designed to show off the fact that there are vets out there that take adversity and challenges head on. Even with every obstacle thrown at the riders no one quit.
Mr. & Mrs. Bush were more than gracious to everyone. We had full access to him and even ate dinner at his personal residence on the ranch. I was proud to wear my Five Star Electric jersey and represent my company. I even had the opportunity to speak to others about who Five Star is and what we do. Five Star Electric is a great example of companies trying to hire veterans. I have PTS, and most employers shy away from veterans with PTS. Five Star hired me right after I medically retired. They have trained, and equipped me with the tools I need to succeed in the world. That is exactly what the Bush Center’s mission is for veterans leaving the service.”
